OJOCHAL, COSTA RICA: Todd King and Patrick Grady of Florida in the US are the proud new owners of Hotel el Mono Feliz. The Closing took place in Uvita on 12 May, 2017 and was handled by attorney Randall Sanchez.
Todd and Patrick are quite excited to quickly get started with some changes to update and brighten the property. Plans include a completely renovated pool and leisure area, a yoga shala and relaxation pavilion along the bank of the Rio Balso, all new decor throughout the hotel, new beds, bedding, towels, and pillows, and so much more.
“We really think this is a special property in an amazing part of Costa Rica, and we’re excited to put our own touches on it,” said Todd. “We feel the proximity to the wonderful selection of restaurants in the area is a real benefit to travelers and vacationers. And the hotel property and grounds have such potential to be an even more delightful and amazing place.”
Patrick continued, “There are so many nature and adventure activities in the immediate area, it takes time just to review them all! We’ve already had guests who were scheduled for just a couple of days change their reservations to a week or more – once they learn more about the area. Within 30-45 minutes from the hotel, you can go whitewater rafting, zip lining, surfing (with or without lessons), explore Corcovado National Park, whale watching (seasonal), kayaking, exploring several nearby waterfalls, horseback riding in the jungle to the village waterfall or the beach, the Sierpe Mangrove Tour where people see monkeys and sloths and toucans and countless other birds – every day, and so much more.” He goes on, “People actually have to weigh their options and decide what they want to do most! It’s hard to fit it all in unless you’re here for a couple of weeks! And, with nature, every day is different.”
He also noted, “There have been over 130 species of bird sightings documented in our gardens – and that’s just right here in our gardens! It’s a birders paradise!”
What this means for guests who know the hotel is that the place they already know and love is getting a bit of a refresh and they’ll find it even more delightful. Of course, all existing reservations will remain intact even as we improve the property.
“Service is a major priority and focus for us,” says Todd. “We realize that when people come here – it’s a very special time for them. They’ve chosen to spend their holiday time and money in Costa Rica – and stay at our hotel. We want to do everything we can to ensure that they have the best possible experience while they’re here.”
The hotel will close for three weeks in June, 2017 for renovations so as not to disrupt guests.
“We’re excited to be here – and doing this,” Patrick continued, “We love helping people!’
Prior to this move, Todd was CFO of Adecco North America, one of the largest divisions of the largest staffing company in the world. Patrick owns a boutique marketing firm helping clients with live events around the world.
The two made the decision after about ten years of discussion. It’s been something they’ve wanted to do for as long as they can remember. “If you’re going to do something like this – when do you do it? At 50 years old? At 60? I’m not sure there is a correct answer – but we wanted to do it while we’re still young and energetic enough to do the work and enjoy the process, so here we are!” says Todd.
We are an eco-lodge and are committed to doing whatever we can to live and work sustainably. We have a solar system that generates 80 percent of our electricity needs and the rest is bought from the grid which is generated from 94 percent renewable energy.
Air Conditioning will be available as an option in all rooms by late 2017 for guests who prefer a more modern hotel experience. Many customers prefer to hear the sounds of the jungle – the river and creeks, the birds and night sounds.
In addition to serving travelers and vacationers, they’ll hold several special interest events throughout each year including Yoga Retreats, Photography Workshops, Adult Summer Camp, and Cooking Exploration. Look for more information here.
